NEW FOR YOU FROM CALSCAPE EXPO

Undoubtedly, the most exciting "new stuff" displayed at CalScape this year was in the container category, most notably by Plants First Choice from Mississauga, Ontario and
Ore, Inc. from Salt Lake City, UT.

Plants First Choice offers an extensive line of fantastic "high-end" planters fabricated in fiberglass and metals — some with wood, shells and natural leaves imbedded in the outer surface. Manufactured in Holland, these planters are inventoried in the Toronto area for easy shipping to all of Canada and the US.

Ore, Inc. offers a line of sustainable contemporary planters and site furnishings fabricated in recycled steel and aluminum — some with reclaimed wooden legs and all created by Artisans in the US.

Also worthy of mention, and unfortunately my photo was too dark to publish, were the Polar Bear table top planters by Greentec Innovations, Inc. These completely recyclable spun aluminum planters are available in three shapes which may be used individually or attached together, one on top of the other (bottom-to-bottom) to create a combination of unique shapes. Email David Winter at Greentecinnovations@gmail.com for photos and information.

The TerraScreen® modular living wall system was also a hit. This easily re-plantable living wall system is perfect for the Interior Plantscape industry as it facilitates simple, quick and non-messy plant rotations as the plants remain in their grow pots. The system is distributed by Tournesol Siteworks and was created by Shane Pliska of Planterra, Inc.

September 2009

Last night I was searching online for a source for plastic cable ties to use for securing
Joey Pouches, when I Google took me to McMaster-Carr and boy, did I find cable ties! Big cable ties, little cable ties, colored cable ties, beaded cable ties, flush-fit cable ties and even metal cable ties.

This place is amazing! They claim to carry over 480,000 products and I'm a believer. They've got categories for Fastening and joining, Tubing - Hose - Pipe & Fittings, Sealing, Filtration ... take a look at the selection of perforated metals.., Raw Materials... look at the selection of "foams" under the Raw Materials category.

They've got Safety Equipment, Pulling & Lifting Equipment, Material Handling Equipment such as hand trucks and carts, tools.... I could go on and on, but I won't!

If you're looking for just about anything, take a look at McMaster-Carr and they're sure to have what you need.

Latest mention this time is more about design inspiration than about a direct product source.

MyLandscapes is the website of London based garden designer Amir Schlezinger and if you're doing any exterior work such as terraces, roof gardens or courtyards, you'll find his work quite inspiring.

Amir Schlezinger:

Our "Latest mention" is the Retro Bullet Planter from Hip Haven, Inc.

Ok, so business has been a little slow for a while now, but finally it looks like things are beginning to pick up a little... level off at least, so it's time to get going again with loading some new ammunition in your 'scaper gun.

What better way than to present unique product to your prospects! You've got to set yourself apart from the competition somehow and for the most part, we all have access to the same container vendors with the same containers.

Installations begin looking a bit "cookie cutter" unless you step out of the box.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't support our longtime and very loyal and creative container suppliers. We absolutely must, but we also must offer new and unique products to our prospects too.

That's where something like the Retro Bullet Planter available from Austin, Texas based Hip Haven, Inc. will provide some ammo. to make you stand out from all the other Interior Plantscaper's bidding the job.

Be different, be creative. There's still work to be had. Check out the Retro Bullet Planter at
Hip Haven and please be sure to tell them you found them on Interiorplantscaper.com.
