It is a big advantage to be associated with a country known for its artistic sense. It is also a responsibility to live up to that expectation. Maybe, that is why I love designing interiorplantscapes. I take design very seriously and continually strive to give a design with style. It has become our company’s trademark.”
Patrice Watine, Owner Greencare Interior Plants Houston, Texas	Patrice began as a technician for a Houston company for the first ten years he was in Texas. At one point he learned that the owner wished to sell her company and they worked out an arrangement that he bought routes piecemeal all the while still working for her as a tech. During that time he tested his selling skills and found he was good at it. In only six months time he was the full owner and today, Alice, the former owner, is Office Manager for Greencare.
Greencare handles accounts that include commercial spaces, hospitality, and high end residences. As a graduate with a degree in Horticulture, Patrice thought he would be an exterior landscaper but after experiencing the Texas heat, he opted to concentrate on interior work. There he found his calling. Working with interior foliage has become his passion. In his off hours, he indulges his artistic bent by alternating between photography, sculpting, painting and building furniture. His love of expressing his artistic nature, he feels, positively affects his interiorplantscaping designs. A love of shape, color, and balance permeates his work. Anyone wishing to see examples of this can just log on to his Flickr site. When asked what his biggest challenge is, Patrice admits it is managing people. He is also concerned that our industry often charges too little for our work. Sometimes he is amazed at how low people will go to get the job. He is also hopeful that, in the future, we will be able to use computer technology more efficiently. Bar coding plants, and other computerized operations would get rid of the paperwork. He is working along those lines. For example, 60% of his clients are billed electronically. Greencare concentrates on interiorplantscaping without a lot of Holiday work or cut florals. The goal is to concentrate on growing the business through recurring contracts for guaranteed maintenance. In fact, his only regret is that he didn’t know what he knows now years ago. “If I had, he says, Greencare would be nationwide”.
